Aplix Corporation Expands Global Presence to the U.S. Marketplace

BOSTON - (Embedded Systems Conference, Booth #911) - September 5, 2001 -

Proven Innovator of Java Embedded Solutions for Mobile Platforms Brings Industry-Leading Product Offerings to the U.S.

Aplix Corporation, a proven innovator of Java embedded solutions for next-generation consumer devices and wireless platforms, today announced that it has established new operations in San Francisco, naming Patrick Bray as chief operating officer. The company is expanding its global presence to address the increasing demand for Java technology-based solutions in consumer embedded and wireless devices and to further support its growing customer base in the U.S. market.

"Aplix has experienced tremendous momentum in Japan, where some of the most demanding and technologically advanced mobile information device users in the world reside," said Ryu Koriyama, founder and chief executive officer, Aplix Corporation. "We're looking forward to bringing our proven solutions to the United States to help U.S. companies leapfrog into the exciting mobile platforms industry."

Established in 1986 in Tokyo, Japan, Aplix Corporation was among the first in its industry to become aware of the potential use of Java technology in the development of increasingly higher-performance consumer electronic devices. The company successfully integrated Java technology with real-time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded systems to create one of the world's first real-time, Java solution under the trade name JBlend™ JBlend™ reduces the number of steps and time required for multi-vendor system development, allowing developers to lower their development costs and quickly get their products to market. Highly regarded for its easy-to-use, flexible and reliable structure, JBlend™ has been widely adopted by Sanyo, Sony, Hitachi and other global manufacturers; and on NTT DoCoMo's i-mode cellular phone the SO503i by Sony.

Companies worldwide are also quickly embracing JBlend™. Aplix and Microsoft Japan have expanded their partnership for embedded Java solutions to develop "microJBlend for Windows CE" as a Java solution supporting "i appli"(Java Application for i-mode) and MIDP. RSA Security is also working with Aplix Corporation by offering the RSA BSAFE SSL-C software development kit as an optional component in JBlend™. Vendors using JBlend™ to develop embedded system applications will be able to implement Internet security protocol, authentication, encryption and other security functions in their products easily, without the need for specialized training or staff.

"Aplix has a proven track record and a solid reputation as an innovator in providing Java embedded solutions to mobile information device manufacturers," said Aisling MacRunnels, director of consumer and embedded marketing, Sun Microsystems, Inc., a partner of Aplix Corporation. "We anticipate their continued success as they expand their global presence and bring their Java-based product offerings to the U.S."
