Paris, France - November 14, 2002 -

Aplix's Leading Java Execution Environment Secures Key Wireless Handset Win in Europe

Aplix Corporation, the global leader in deploying Java™ technology in mobile phones, announced today that its JBlend™ platform has been selected as the preferred Java solution for mobile phones from Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE:ALA). Aplix's JBlend™ technology has enjoyed unparalleled success in the Japanese market after being incorporated into 33 wireless handset models from 11 different manufacturers to date. As of the end of September this year, JBlend™ technology has shipped in more than 12 million units of mobile phones and home electronics devices, including mini disc camcorders, digital photo printers, digital image albums, and High Definition Televisions (HDTV).

The Alcatel handsets will incorporate JBlend™ technology, which includes the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME™ Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC), Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP), and Aplix's patent-pending KFTT™ acceleration technology. This comprehensive platform will enable Alcatel customers to run pre-installed and downloaded applications such as games and productivity apps.

"Aplix is by far the most experienced implementer of Java technology in mobile phones," said Laurent Guyot, vice-president, Products and Solutions, Alcatel Mobile Phone Division. "Their commercial success and experience in Japan making Java technology in handsets a reality is impressive. They offer intimate knowledge about how to successfully deploy a fast, robust, and stable Java execution environment in a wireless handset context. This combination of market leadership and technical know-how makes them an extremely valuable partner as we roll out our first Java-enabled phones."

"The selection of JBlend™ technology by a powerhouse like Alcatel is a key milestone as we expand our market leadership from Japan to Europe and the US," said Ryu Koriyama, chief executive officer and chairman of Aplix Corporation.
