Openwave and Aplix Partner to Bring Java™ Technology to Openwave Phone Tool

NEW ORLEANS, La., REDWOOD CITY, Ca. and San Francisco, Ca. - March 17, 2003 -

Collaboration Will Improve User Experience, Cost and Time-to-Market for Java-Enabled Mobile Phones

Openwave Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: OPWV), the leading independent provider of open software products and services for the mobile communications industry, and Aplix Corporation, the global leader in deploying Java technology in mobile phones, today announced a collaboration to integrate Aplix's JBlend™ technology with Openwave Phone Tools Version 7.0. This alliance, which is the first download technology partnership for Openwave Phone Tools, will provide handset manufacturers and operators with a faster and more cost-effective way to bring new games, downloadable applications and services to new mass market handsets.
