Aplix Corporation JBlend™ Supporting iMode Java Applications Adopted in NTT DoCoMo SO503i

Aplix Corporation (head office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Ryu Koriyama), the leading provider of embedded Java solutions, is proud to announce that its JBlend™ platform is used inside the NTT DoCoMo SO503i iMode cellular phone.
The SO503i is one of a new breed of mobile devices supporting iAppli, Java applications that can be downloaded via NTT DoCoMo's iMode Internet service to Java-enabled handsets. Aplix Corporation's original acceleration technology KFTT provides a 250% speed boost to applications running on the CLDC/KVM Java environment in the SO503i. An additional speed increase comes from the application framework specially developed by Aplix Corporation for iAppli. In these ways the use of the Aplix Corporation JBlend™ platform on the SO503i results in significantly faster operation, expanding the potential for iAppli use.
NTT DoCoMo's iMode cellular phones are already in use by millions of Japanese, with young people especially attracted to this exciting way of keeping in touch. Now with JBlend™ inside, new models like the SO503i are taking advantage of Aplix Corporation's leading-edge Java technologies to open up brand new possibilities, ensuring that this platform will remain the leader well into the future. Several other vendors are currently readying their JBlend™ models for the market.

JBlend™ is Java technology for embedded systems. While retaining the advantages of existing software resources, it combines the strengths of real-time OS tasks, with their network support and scalability, and Java optimized for embedded use.
JBlend™ was originally developed by merging Sun Microsystems' Java platform with an ITRON-specification embedded OS. Taking advantage of the outstanding real-time performance of the ITRON architecture, the result was a real-time operating system (RTOS) equipped with a user- friendly GUI environment. This winning combination has enabled developers to create new products for the market in much less time than before, greatly reducing the development effort required. JBlend™ versions supporting many other RTOS architectures besides ITRON are being readied, in order to provide a broader range of embedded Java solutions, mainly for mobile information devices and digital consumer electronics products.
