Aplix to jointly develop the Doja/Java™ Platform for FOMA® handsets with NTT DoCoMo

Tokyo, JAPAN, – Apr 13, 2005 -

Aplix Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Ryu Koriyama) announced today further progress with NTT DoCoMo, Inc. for jointly developing the DoJa*/Java™ platform for FOMA® handsets.

Since August of 2004, Aplix and NTT DoCoMo have cooperated to jointly develop a prototype of the DoJa/Java platform. Analyses of performance enhancement techniques, as well as an investigation to reduce development costs for handset manufacturers through the standardization of the platform, were both completed. This resulted in the joint development of the Doja/Java platform. Aplix has targeted late June of 2005 for the completion of this development and is planning to provide the platform for each of the handset manufacturers who develop FOMA handsets. This platform enables the features for the handset manufacturers for each of these models.

“As the features of mobile phones have become more sophisticated, the scale of the software development has dramatically increased” said Koji Chiba, Managing Director, Customer Equipment Development Department of NTT DoCoMo. “I believe that the Doja/Java platform that we are jointly developing with Aplix will significantly contribute to handset manufacturers by reducing their time to market.”

Additionally, Aplix has established YRP Development Center in Yokosuka Research Park (YRP) where NTT DoCoMo’s R D center is located, which will help to accelerate the development of the DoJa/Java platform.

* DoJa is the term of the Java specification for NTT DoCoMo’s i-appli®.
