Aplix Targets WAC Web Runtime Specification
August 5, 2010
Aplix Corporation announced today that its Web Runtime product, SafeWID, will support the Wholesale Applications Community (WAC) core specification in time for its commercial release later this year. Building on the technology that already powers the BONDI Reference Implementation, SafeWID will be a ready-to-deploy solution for WAC compliance across a range of handset platforms. To ensure continuity for existing content, the runtime also provides support for the BONDI v1.1 and JIL v1.2.2 specifications which the WAC specification supersedes.
SafeWID allows manufacturers and operators implement a complete Web Runtime using the WebKit engine, avoiding the need to license a proprietary renderer. This provides superior standards compliance and also minimises the integration effort and cost, particularly on those platforms that already include a WebKit-based browser. This time-to-market advantage is especially important in the drive to enable WAC services over the coming few months.
Supported by all of the major global operators, WAC – announced at Mobile World Congress this year – will provide commercial, operational and technical enablers to expand the market for mobile applications. Its key focus is enabling a single channel for developers, providing genuine commercial scalability in the face of a rapid proliferation of retail application stores. The WAC technical specifications are an important complement to this, ensuring scalability through cross-platform formats, with openness, security and privacy as core defining principles.
“The formation of WAC is a significant and welcome development” said Ryu Koriyama, CEO of Aplix Corporation. “It focuses on the value chain and provides the missing link for the developer. By supporting the WAC specifications, we are delighted to play our part in enabling a new generation of cross-platform applications and services for the end-user”.
Arron Fang, President of iaSolution Inc. and Corporate Officer of Aplix Crop., commented "Our teams have built competences across Web and Java™ Runtimes since the very beginning. We are very excited about the whole new ecosystem to be built upon WAC initiatives that could bring vital business opportunities for entire value chain. Our aim is for SafeWID to be the most open, compliant and effective WAC runtime solution available.
